Argentina — Digital Nomad Visa (180-Day Transitory Residence): your complete guide to living and working remotely in Argentina

Why Argentina (at a glance)

Think: a flat white in Palermo after work, bookstore strolls on Corrientes, a weekend asado in Córdoba. Argentina blends creative cities, wild nature, and a competitive cost of living for foreign-sourced income. Since 2022, the country offers a specific transitory residence for digital nomads—meant for people who work exclusively for employers/clients abroad and want a legal stay beyond a tourist stamp. (argentina.gob.ar)

What exactly is it?

It’s a Transitory Residence for Digital Nomads up to 180 days, created by Argentina’s Dirección Nacional de Migraciones (DNM) for visa-exempt nationals who provide remote services for entities domiciled outside Argentina. It may be extended once for another 180 days if you meet renewal conditions. The regime is established by Disposición DNM DI-2022-758-APN-DNM#MI.

  • Official Gazette text (full law notice): Boletín Oficial – Disposición DNM 758/2022. (boletinoficial.gob.ar)

Who manages it & where to apply

The competent authority is the DNM. You can start:

  • From abroad via Electronic Entry Processing (TIE 24H), if eligible; or
  • Inside Argentina, regularizing your status at a DNM office (as applicable).

Official requirements (what the rule and services list)

Expect to present:

  • Application letter with your personal details and a brief description of your remote activity; short CV.
  • Valid passport (data page image) and ID photo.
  • Proof of activity & income: contract(s), employer/client letters, invoices/receipts, and at least one professional reference.
  • Payment of government fees per the platform (RADEx/TIE or in-person, as applicable).
  • Legalization & Spanish translation where required.
  • Eligibility: only visa-exempt nationalities for tourist entry may use this category—verify your nationality before starting.

(See the DNM service page and Disposición 758/2022.) (argentina.gob.ar)

Step-by-step (practical path)

  1. Check eligibility: your nationality must be tourist-visa-exempt. Decide if you’ll apply via TIE 24H from abroad or handle it with DNM inside Argentina. (argentina.gob.ar)
  2. Prepare documents: application note + CV, passport, photo, clear evidence of remote work & income (contracts, letters, invoices). Translate/apostille as needed. (argentina.gob.ar)
  3. Submit your application:
    • Online (from abroad): TIE 24H (see overview and specific Digital Nomads page). (argentina.gob.ar)
    • In Argentina: at a DNM office per the service guide. (argentina.gob.ar)
  1. Follow-ups: DNM may request corrections (“prevenir”). Upload within the stated deadline.
  2. Extension (if needed): prove 50% minimum presence during the first period, updated income proof, and Argentine police certificate for the renewal appointment (see extension service page). (argentina.gob.ar)

QUESTRAVEL’s take

Where cases stall most often is proof of activity/income: vague employer letters or ambiguous contracts. DNM wants clear evidence that your employer/clients are domiciled abroad and that your work is 100% remote. We also see rejections over incomplete translations/legalizations.

QUESTRAVEL’s professor-concierge method:

  • Draft letter templates aligned with the Disposición.
  • Audit contracts/invoices for form & substance.
  • Plan your extension with a presence timeline (≥50%) and police-record timing.
